The agricultural area, which is probably Toowoomba’s oldest industry – is not to be under estimated. The businesses that are required for this to fully function optimally and as successfully as it has for generations is necessitated through feed lotting, cotton, grass fed beef grain production –and that’s just to name a few. Many of these agricultural facilities are all within 60kms of the CBD of Toowoomba. As you can see, the supply chain for this industry is astonishing and all are based in Toowoomba.

After putting my 4 children through private schooling in Toowoomba, I have an intricate understanding of the costs involved and the amount of small businesses that are required for this sector to thrive.  Toowoomba is known for its world-class schooling and educational facilities – particularly for a regional community. There are 4 big schools (and several smaller too) that have over 800-1100 students in each with 200-400 having children that board at each school from all over the planet.  These children need to be fed, clothed, educated, run to sporting, singing, dancing, performing arts, all those extra-curricular activities – you get my drift! This allows for a lot of small businesses to thrive by catering to just this one sector of thriving families.

Service to the mining and gas sector is an area that has grown significantly in the last 10 years, while the coal seam gas industry has moved into an operational phase the on-going maintenance continues with Toowoombas suppliers manufacturing and delivering on a large scale.
